Thank you to all of you who offered to help us spread literature by passing around free issues of HOOT.

This offer is over, buuuuuut, we are now holding a contest for Sharing the HOOT-Love. Literature is meant to be shared! By everyone, not just us crazy writer-Literary (capital “L”) types. So we want our publication to get out there.

Here’s how it works– you take pictures of a HOOT issue shared “creatively” and send them to us (at “info@hootreview.com”)–before November 20, 2011.

Our favorite sharing mechanisms/photographs will win free subscriptions to HOOT (either for yourself, or…if you already have a subscription, you can make yours last for two years, or give one to a friend or loved one). We will also post our favorites and our runner-ups on our website, to encourage & inspire further sharing of literature.

In order to do participate in this contest you will need a copy of HOOT. So– if you don’t have one, you have four options:

1. Buy yourself a subscription (in the hopes of winning another subscription for a friend, or extending your subscription an extra year). We will love you forever if you choose option 1.
2. Buy a single copy of this month’s HOOT.
3. Print out the picture provided of this month’s HOOT (make sure you print it actual postcard size! and PLEEEEASE put our website on there somewhere…”http://hootreview.com”)
4. Find someone who does have a copy and ask/beg/steal.

The best thing about a literary magazine on a postcard is…it’s easy to share!

Things that HOOT Ambassador Cara Giaimo plans to do with her  11 copies of HOOT issue 1:

#1.  give it to my mom, who likes to read but is busy
#2.  give it to my friend Arnold*, who likes to read but is lazy   *not his real name
#3.  tack it to the bulletin board of the animal hospital next to my apartment, right next to the cutest kitten picture
#4.  put it in between the pages of a featured book at the Boston Public Library (in the first chapter, so the reader definitely makes it that far, even if the book turns out to be terrible)
#5.  sneak it into the paper bag of the 5th person who buys beet salad at the mediterranean food stand where I spend most of my afternoons
#6.  send it to my friend Griz, who just recently got approved for public housing, so that he has some mail at his first ever real address
#7.  pin it to my backpack so people can read it when they’re standing behind me on public transportation
#8.  award it to whatever team wins bar trivia on the following Tuesday
#9.  hand it to the next of my many Luddite friends who I overhear espousing the opinion that new media is killing print
#10.  hand it to the first stranger that I overhear saying the word “extreme”
and
#11.  hang it on my wall in a place of honor.
