“Brevity is the soul of wit.” And of other things, too.
HOOT is a magazine on a postcard. Authors from around the world submit their microfiction (very short stories), nonfiction, and poetry to us. Every month, we select one piece to be published on the front of a 4″ x 6″ postcard. We then design a visual element to match the writing, and mail the issue to subscribers!
The idea is that current, quality literature should be accessible to everyone—something you can participate in and share! Our postcards are short (<150 words), and small enough to be hung as art on fridges or passed to friends. We also try to hide HOOT‘s around cities in creative ways (think “guerilla literature”), and run free writing workshops (online and in person).
That is such a great idea, a magazine on a postcard. It’s simple and brilliant.
This is brilliant! I love the idea of short forms of beauty – realizing of course that I’m selfish and will probably send them to myself rather than to friends 🙂
There’s nothing wrong with sending yourself a little mail now and then…
I really think this idea is amazing and, guerilla literature that screams me. I used to participate in postcard mail as a hobby years ago. Another thing I loved was taking pictures of all the sticker grafitti in Philly and I would of loved to be passing these around they look amazing.
Im glad I found you
If you’d like to spread the love and guerilla literature, I’d be delighted to send you some back issues of HOOT to plaster around your town! If you take photos of your guerilla literaturing we’ll feature them on the website and our social media!
